The American Graduation Initiative
Jul 17, 2009 Wedding Planning InstituteOn Tuesday this week, President Barack Obama backed up his challenge to Americans this past February to take charge of our future by creating opportunity through higher education.
In a speech at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan, the President announced the American Graduation Initiative, a $12 billion commitment to strengthen community colleges that gear curriculum for the needed jobs of the future with a goal of graduating an additional five million people with degrees and certificates in the next decade.
Later that evening, students at Macomb Community College attending the summer session of The Wedding Planning Institute’s Certified Wedding Planner course met with their instructor Lisa Smith, owner of Gabbi Grace Events, to take charge of their future and continue their journey to making their wedding planning business dreams come true.

Great post!
The LWPI wedding planner course at Macomb Community College is a great example of how the American Graduate Initiative will help so many people. There are still industries growing and profiting in this economy and wedding planning offers individuals a career that is in THEIR hands. President Obama’s plan will enable more people to take their future into their own hands and have more career choices.

It was very exciting to have President Obama visit our campus. I have attended many community education courses through Macomb Community College over the years and was completely thrilled to have the opportunity to attend the LWPI wedding planner certification course. Hopefully individuals across our country will be encouraged to further their education and position themselves for a career they will truly enjoy. Community colleges are a great place to start!

Hello not sure if this is the right place to leave these questions so, someone let me know if there is a better place. I just finished the course and I have my first wedding in three weeks! The bride just wants coordination for the day before and day of. I have all the tools but I’m not sure where to start, any tips would be great. Than you.

Colleges’ curriculum prepare students for a job working for someone else. They need more like The Wedding Planner, to prepare students to own a business of their own. Entreprenuers are what helps keep the economy strong.

I am an online student of the LWPI wedding planner course. It’s an awesome course and I learned alot. The course covered everything and broaden my scope and my way of thinking about this industry.
The wedding industry is a million dollar industry. There’s a lot you can accomplish but you have to know what you are doing and have a plan.
LWPI provided all the necessary foundations I needed to set goals and plans that will help me to become successful.

I have both a bachelor’s degree and a small business management certification that I received from a community college. My experience both with the community college and with this wedding planning course has been exceptionally helpful to me! Both gave me real-world tools that I can apply to my career as a wedding planner as I move forward. This is nothing like the kind of education you get at a 4 year university, which is much more esoteric. I feel that President Obama has the right idea trying to get people into school and onto a rewarding career!
I know that, armed with my certification and all the knowledge I have gained through this course and through those I took on a community college campus, I will be a successful, contributing member to our American economy!

I agree with you. I really enjoyed my wedding planning course from wedding planning institute. I learned a lot and right now, my cousin and I are planning to become partners and start a wedding planning business. This will be my first attempt at starting a business, and I am very excited.
