Love Resist Recession

Part Two: Financial Experts Debate Recession, Wedding Industry Finds Love

The Wedding Planning InstitutePart Two: WPI Certified Wedding Planners Offer Free Services

Increased costs for planning a wedding are affecting bride and groom decisions from their attire to their honeymoon. Many couples are finding that despite their best efforts to stretch their wedding budgets, the economic recession is showing up in fees over and above to the usual wedding vendor goods and services costs.

With two-thirds of U.S. weddings described by The Wedding Report as traditional, formal, or extravagant, it is clear that despite inflation, the “Day Of” dreams of millions of brides and grooms far outweigh current financial realities. Designer gowns may be substituted with off-the-rack knock-offs and destination wedding venues may experiencing lulls, but overall people will continue to fall in love and be determined to successfully plan and experience their dream wedding no matter the economic forecast.

Due to financial pressures from all sides, many couples are finding creative ways to stay within a reduced wedding budget. Although wedding planners, venues, and vendors are reporting solid business without unusually high numbers of cancellations, many are noting couples’ choices are more prone toward cost-effective solutions over unnecessary extravagance than in past years.

Whether pressing a suit into service instead of tuxedo rentals or buying flowers locally and in season, today’s recession-minded couples are creating interesting ways to avoid turning their wedding dream into a financial nightmare. With smart choices and budget planning, couples are able to fulfill their wedding desires without emptying their bank account.

The Wedding Planning Institute recognizes the need for professional wedding planning, especially in the current economic environment of increased costs in all aspects of life. WPI Certified Wedding Planners are trained to develop a network of preferred vendors and venues in their local market that provide the right goods and services to match a couple’s desires and means.

In participating markets, local WPI Certified Wedding Planners contract with a network of local, preferred wedding vendors and venues to provide brides and grooms with free wedding planning services. These networks also allow couples to enjoy discounts and packages not available to uncertified planners.

In part three of Love Resists Recession, we will explore the legend of the wedding industry’s reluctance to submit to the whims of a recession and how WPI Certified Wedding Planners are best positioned to guide their clients and themselves through the financial challenges ahead.
